Objective: Students will gather information on a certain African American figure from history.
Materials needed: KWL chart, NARA and SEA worksheets, laptops,
Length of lesson: 2 days
Task 1 and 2- Day 1: Students will choose an African American figure from history out of hat. In the hat contains, people from sports, writers, government, inventors etc.....
Once the students have chosen their person,the teacher will record the students' picks and then they will be given a KWL chart. On the chart they are to complete the K and W portions. Then they will Think-Pair- Share with a peer and add items to each other's KWL chart. During this sharing, they will share each other's W portions of the their charts and see if their peers can answer any of the questions they have entered on the chart.
Next, teacher will pass out the NARA and SEA worksheets to the students. The teacher will have identified before the lesson begins what student will be using the SEA or NARA worksheets based on their needs and abilities. Students will then receive their laptops and begin naviagating on the Internet. They will begin with GOOGLE SCHOLAR and then navigate from their. Students will only have about 15 minutes to begin this task, and will continue the task tomorrow.

Task 1- Day 2: Teacher will review the objective for the day and students will continue working on the task from Day 1. While the students are navigating and gathering information on their person of study, they will fill out the NARA and SEA worksheets as well as check their KWL charts to see if what they knew was accurate information and if the what they want to know questions have been answered. If not, then they will read through the information and hopefully find the answers. Teacher will be walking around the room and helping students and checking their work. Finally, about the lat 15 minutes of the class, the students will choose one primary source to analyze for homework.
Great use of KWL Charts. I really like the idea of think-pair-share with a peep, I think it provides great feedback within the context of this particular lesson. Well done!
